In response to heavy rainfall overnight, emergency operations have been initiated in Cilacap District, Central Java, Indonesia, due to widespread flooding and landslides affecting several villages. The Cilacap Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that, as of 8 a.m. on Saturday, many areas remained submerged, particularly impacting the Maos and Kroya sub-districts.
In Maos, the village of Mrenek experienced floodwaters reaching depths of 10 to 20 centimeters, while parts of Karangreja Village saw flooding up to 50 centimeters. Although there have been no evacuations, local authorities are preparing a public kitchen at the village hall to assist residents if conditions deteriorate.
In Kroya, flooding was also reported in the villages of Mujur Lor and Sikampuh, with water levels reaching approximately 20 centimeters, affecting homes, shops, and a mosque. Authorities have called for heavy equipment to clear water hyacinth from a tributary of the Silunjar River, as the blockage poses a risk of exacerbating the flooding situation.
Meanwhile, in Cilibang Village of Jeruklegi, flooding has covered agricultural land and spilled onto a main road, though the route remains passable for cars and motorcycles. Additionally, a landslide in Mandala Village, also in Jeruklegi, has prompted emergency operations by local authorities and disaster response teams. Efforts are underway to procure heavy equipment to clear landslide debris.
The BPBD is closely monitoring the affected locations and is coordinating with local authorities and relevant agencies to manage the situation effectively and prevent further damage. Their efforts are focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of residents while addressing the immediate challenges posed by the severe weather conditions.
