Miss Mexico Wins Miss Universe After Weeks of Controversy and On-Stage Chaos

Published on

Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch, has been crowned the 74th Miss Universe following a turbulent lead-up marked by disputes, resignations, falls, and allegations of disrespect behind the scenes. Despite the glamorous finale, the pageant spent weeks battling controversy as contestants and organisers clashed publicly.
The tensions began when Bosch accused a senior organiser in Thailand of insulting her, prompting her to walk out alongside several contestants. Support quickly followed, with former titleholders and public figures calling her stance a strong stand for women’s dignity. The organiser later issued an apology, saying his remarks had been misunderstood.
Further turmoil unfolded as two judges resigned just days before the final, one alleging that the competition included a “secret vote” to preselect contestants—claims the organisation strongly denied. The week also saw multiple stage mishaps, including falls by Miss Jamaica and Miss Great Britain, as well as controversies tied to political displays and inappropriate social media content by participants.
Despite the dramatic build-up, Bosch secured the crown on Friday, surpassing Miss Thailand, a fan favourite. Her victory marked a triumphant conclusion to a competition overshadowed by weeks of disputes and unexpected incidents.
