Vietnam, Malaysia Boost Economic Ties Through Enhanced Defence Collaboration

Published on

In a bid to bolster regional stability and strengthen bilateral relations, Vietnam and Malaysia are enhancing their defence cooperation. This development was highlighted during talks in Hanoi between Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, General Phan Văn Giang, and Malaysia’s outgoing Ambassador, Dato’ Tan Yang Thai. During their discussions, Giang commended the ambassador for his contributions to improving the partnership between the two countries.

The discussions underscored the progress made in the defence sector, which has seen both nations engage in regular military exchanges and policy discussions. This has been complemented by training cooperation and joint participation in international and multilateral events, reflecting a shared commitment to deepen ties.

General Giang advocated for the continuation of existing agreements and called for more robust engagement through high-level meetings and established defence cooperation mechanisms. In a gesture to further this cooperation, he extended an invitation to Malaysia’s defence leaders and companies to take part in the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2026, scheduled to be held in Hanoi.

Ambassador Dato’ Tan Yang Thai, reflecting on his tenure, expressed gratitude to Vietnam’s defence ministry and military for their support. He conveyed optimism that the defence relationship between Vietnam and Malaysia would continue to flourish, thereby contributing to peace and prosperity within the region.
