The penalty leaves the club on -6 points, facing an almost impossible fight to avoid relegation. However, Pedersen stressed that the club needed a “fresh restart” after months of financial chaos. “We knew… it cannot continue,” he said, adding there is “a belief, a hope” for “better days.”
The financial mismanagement under Chansiri led to $pounds{}$1 million in tax debts and repeated failures to pay wages, causing an exodus of players and staff, including former manager Danny Röhl. The Supporters Trust said they were “overjoyed” to see Chansiri gone, calling the day “bittersweet.”
The club is now under the control of administrator Begbies Traynor, who will market the club and its stadium to new buyers. They met with “emotional” staff on Friday morning, with Pedersen hopeful that job losses could be prevented.
The Supporters Trust is now pivoting from protest to support, urging fans to end their boycotts. “Now is the time to be Wednesday,” the trust declared, asking fans to provide the income needed to “rebuild from the ground up.”
