Delicate Truce Holds as Thai and Cambodian Troops Step Back

Published on

Days of deadly conflict along the Thailand-Cambodia border have ended with an “immediate and unconditional” truce, offering tentative relief to exhausted locals and refugees. Both governments—prompted by urgent Malaysian mediation—have committed to ongoing talks at both military and political levels.
The border area, long a hotspot due to old treaties and ancient stone temples, saw heavy shelling, with over 200,000 people forced to flee. Now, military leaders from both countries are expected to meet to solidify the ceasefire.
Citizens remain on edge, with memories of violence fresh and nationalist rhetoric swirling. Yet, the announcement has allowed aid and rebuilding efforts to speed up across devastated villages.
As peace takes tentative root, leaders and international observers urge patience and vigilance.
