Amid a broader uptick in regional markets, Bursa Malaysia saw a modest rise on Monday, marking the end of a three-day decline. The regional boost, coupled with strategic bargain hunting in heavyweight stocks, contributed to the local market’s performance.
The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI closed slightly higher, gaining 1.38 points or 0.08%, finishing the day at 1,666.94. At one point during the trading session, the index reached a high of 1,674.74 before some investors opted to take profits, leading to a reduction in gains.
Energy-related sectors were among the day’s top performers, with refining and renewable energy stocks showing notable increases. Hengyuan rose by RM1 to RM4.34, while Petron Malaysia Refining saw a gain of 33 sen, closing at RM3.79. In the renewable sector, Samaiden advanced by 43 sen to reach RM2.38, Solarvest climbed 36 sen to RM3.69, and Pekat added 15 sen, ending at RM2.26.
The ringgit also experienced a slight boost, appreciating 0.13% against the US dollar to 4.0765. In contrast, Brent crude oil prices fell by 2.04%, settling at US$101.75 per barrel as fears over supply disruptions began to ease.
Looking beyond Malaysia, other Asian markets also ended the day on a positive note. Japan’s Nikkei 225, South Korea’s Kospi, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng, and major indices in China recorded gains, reflecting a generally optimistic regional market atmosphere.
