In a significant boost to economic ties, Indonesia and China have inked three major investment deals, collectively valued at around $2 billion, during the Indonesia-China Partnership Forum held in Jakarta. These agreements aim to bolster cooperation in the fields of renewable energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure. One of the standout projects from this collaboration is the establishment of a 300-megawatt agrivoltaic solar power plant in North Sumatra, which is pegged at approximately $1.35 billion. This venture will integrate solar energy production with agricultural practices, positioning it as a leading renewable energy project in the region.
Beyond the solar initiative, Indonesian company Jobubu Jarum Minahasa has partnered with China’s Guangxi G. Taste Food Co., Ltd., signaling a deepening of ties in the food and beverage sector. Additionally, Telkom Properti Indonesia has joined forces with CNEC Engineering Indonesia, further expanding the scope of Sino-Indonesian cooperation. These agreements are part of Indonesia’s broader strategy to attract investments that not only spur economic growth but also advance technological innovation and sustainability.
Djauhari Oratmangun, Indonesia’s Ambassador to China, emphasized the country’s commitment to securing high-quality investments. His vision includes fostering job creation, facilitating technology transfer, and strengthening local industries—all while supporting sustainable economic growth. He identified renewable energy, electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, and green technology as key sectors for future collaboration between the two nations.
According to the Ministry of Investment in Indonesia, China’s cumulative investment in the country reached $38.34 billion from 2021 through the first half of 2026. This influx of capital has resulted in the creation of over 500,000 jobs, underscoring the significance of Chinese investment as a catalyst for economic development in Indonesia. The recent agreements are expected to further cement this relationship, paving the way for enhanced cooperation in crucial areas of mutual interest.
