The tech industry is experiencing a shakeup as Alan Dye moves from Apple to Meta’s newly created creative studio. Dye has been Apple’s chief of user interface design since 2015 and spent nearly 20 years with the company. He will officially join Meta on December 31st to lead this new initiative within Reality Labs.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the hiring on Threads, revealing plans for a studio that combines design, fashion, and technology. Apple confirmed Dye’s departure, with CEO Tim Cook naming veteran designer Stephen Lemay as his replacement. This transition represents a significant moment in the competition between these tech giants.
The new studio will focus on elevating design standards across Meta’s organization. Zuckerberg emphasized that the team will include talented individuals with diverse skills and deep experience in creating compelling products. The objective is to ensure that Meta’s products bridge hardware and software while delivering exceptional user experiences.
Zuckerberg outlined a vision for the future where AI glasses and other innovative devices will reshape connectivity. He stressed that the new studio will focus on creating thoughtful and intuitive interactions that serve people’s needs. Dye will report directly to Andrew Bosworth, Meta’s Chief Technology Officer, giving him significant strategic influence. This industry shakeup demonstrates Meta’s commitment to competing on design excellence as it develops next-generation products.
