Vietnam, Cambodia Enhance Trade Through Improved Border Security Measures

Published on

In a concerted effort to bolster security along the Vietnam-Cambodia border, police forces from Vietnam’s Tây Ninh Province and Cambodia’s Svay Rieng, Prey Veng, and Tboung Khmum provinces have pledged to enhance their collaborative measures against cross-border crime. This initiative comes amid ongoing challenges related to drug and human trafficking, smuggling, and other forms of organized crime in the region.

During a recent conference held in Tây Ninh, officials from the four provinces reviewed their existing partnerships and strategized on improving coordination. The focus was on exchanging information effectively and conducting joint operations to tackle crimes that transcend national boundaries, including money laundering and online fraud.

Direct communication and regular meetings between the provincial police forces were emphasized as crucial for the timely exchange of information and handling of cross-border criminal cases. This approach aims to facilitate faster responses and more efficient crime prevention strategies.

Furthermore, the provinces agreed to increase patrols and monitoring of border areas to curb illegal activities such as unauthorized crossings, which could potentially aid transnational crime syndicates. This includes a commitment to address emerging security challenges like terrorism, arms trafficking, and high-tech crime.

The conference concluded with the signing of a memorandum of cooperation. This document formalizes their commitment to strengthening efforts in crime prevention and maintaining public order in the border regions, underscoring the importance of international collaboration in addressing security concerns.
