The initiative for these talks came from the Philippines, acting in its capacity as the current chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), as confirmed by Rachada Dhanadirek, the spokesperson for the Thai Prime Minister’s Office.

Following the discussions, the leaders faced the press, with President Marcos opening the conference in his role as ASEAN chair.
