Trump Predicts Hormuz Economic Agreement with Iran in 48 Hours

Published on

US President Donald Trump has indicated that discussions with Iran are showing promise, with hopes that a provisional agreement concerning the Strait of Hormuz navigation could be finalized shortly. A potential arrangement, spanning 60 days, is reportedly under negotiation between the United States, Iran, and Oman. This plan seeks to reestablish commercial shipping through this vital waterway, aiming to minimize interruptions to international trade.

The proposal outlines designated pathways for maritime vessels: inbound ships would navigate a northern channel close to Iran, while outbound ships would traverse through Omani waters, working in tandem with Iranian authorities. Notably, the temporary arrangement would not impose any transit fees, and collaborative efforts between Iran and Oman are anticipated to focus on removing mines from critical shipping routes.

Despite the growing optimism surrounding these talks, Iranian officials have advised prudence, noting that even a tentative agreement with Oman does not assure the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran has stressed that further advancements hinge on potential shifts in US policy.

President Trump, in a conversation with journalists, suggested that a formal statement regarding the negotiations might be expected “tomorrow or the next day.” He remarked that the discussions with Iran were “moving along very nicely,” but also cautioned that failing to secure a deal could lead to severe repercussions.

If the agreement comes to fruition, it could play a crucial role in alleviating tensions in the Gulf region, thereby enhancing the movement of global energy and commercial shipments.
